EARLY YEARS STUDY – Thriving Kids, Thriving Society
Twenty years ago, the late Dr. Fraser Mustard and Honourable Margaret Norrie McCain assembled at the request of the Ontario government, to advise on how to improve outcomes for young children. Great leaps have been made in our understanding of brain growth in young children. The nature versus nurture debate was settling as scientists agreed that both genes and environment not only impact developmental trajectories but also play off one another.

The First Five Years website aims to create a collaborative community of parents, professionals and educators to share insights and experiences about the early years and help meet the challenges of raising young children.
The first five years of a child’s life are profoundly important to a child’s development and they pass so quickly that they can seem like just a moment. The short and long-term benefits of preschool for children are well-known, however, new research shows those benefits are amplified by the quality and quantity of the preschool experience.
