Kindergartners Learning Simple Addition
As a supply for an ECE at the Greater Essex District County School Board, I lead this simple addition math activity with he kindergarten class. I wrote the math problem out on the white board (i.e. 3 + 2 = ? ). Then I had them guess what the answer was by putting their name in the hoop with the number they chose. I wrote tally marks and then we counted the total tally marks together as I pointed to each one. We did this exercise about 6 times. Most of the children answered the addition question correctly by putting their name plate in the correct hoop. However, a couple for the junior kindergartners were not ready for this addition exercise. It was good practice for me doing an assessment exercise for simple addition.
